Fasting provides an opportunity for the body to rest for a moment. The digestive system does not have to work hard all day, like days in general. But unfortunately, fasting also makes the throat experiencing drought so sore throat is often inevitable.
Throat pain is the most common condition due to viral infection. The risk of this complaint increases when fasting due to decreased immune system, due to the absence of intake that goes on for almost 14 hours.

Symptoms of sore throat vary. Generally itchy in the throat until the sensation wants to scratch the inner neck, hoarseness and pain during swallowing. In some cases, symptoms that occur due to this condition can also be a congestion or runny nose.

Prevents sore throat when fasting

To prevent sore throat when fasting, you must pay attention to the choice of food and beverages consumed during meal and breaking.

According to him, foods and drinks that are too hot or cold can trigger a stress reaction in the mucosa of the throat so that germs more easily enter.

"Also avoid oily foods such as fried foods, because it can cause irritation of the throat," added dr. Fiastuti while providing an explanation on how to prevent a throat infection during fasting in the number of South Jakarta, Monday (21/5).

Further, dr. Fiastuti reveals that you are also required to eat healthy and balanced nutrition during meal and breaking. It aims to keep the immune system remains excellent during fasting.

"At the meal, prioritize the consumption of complete foods containing carbohydrates, protein, vegetables and fruits and 2-3 cups of water," he said.

Meanwhile, when breaking, dr. Fiastuti recommends you to eat sweet foods or drinks such as dates, sweet tea or kolak. This is so that blood sugar levels can return to the normal range immediately.

"Then, continue with a full meal containing carbohydrates, protein, fat, vegetables and fruit and drink 3-4 glasses of water. After tarawih prayer can be filled again with snacks and 1-2 glass of white water, "said dr. Fiastuti.

On the same occasion, Educator & Trainer Mundipharma Indonesia, dr. Mery Sulastri said that gargle using a mouthwash containing antiseptic also needs to be done to prevent sore throat when fasting.

"Based on the results of research, antiseptic mouthwash containing Povidone-Iodine 1% proven to reduce the number of bacteria and viruses in the oral cavity as much as 99.9%," he said.

Mery added, Povidone-Iodine 1% proved safe to use in the oral cavity and throat area. This is because the compound has a wide spectrum, so it can help the healing process of wound infection in the oral cavity and help stop the bleeding.

"We recommend people to gargle for 30 seconds using Povidone-Iodine antiseptic fluids such as BETADINE® Mouthwash . During the fasting month, gargle can be done 2 times a day, namely during meal and breaking "said Mery.
